A PLEA FOR HELP

I am Faith Edda C. Casinillo, 21 years old, Filipino, a YFC, residing in Hilongos, Leyte.

My mom is diagnosed with  TYPE II DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, SKIMMIA AND HYPOTHYROIDISM that made her body weaken and ill. She was diagnosed with the said illnesses late of February this year.

Our family is poor. The want of money for  the continuing treatment of my mom has added to our suffering and agony we are experiencing right now. Our meager resources received from our close kins cannot compensate all the expenses for her fast recovery.

Being a daughter of my beloved MOTHER is a difficult trial. I cannot help myself but to have incessant worries and persistent fear that i may not be able to see my mom again ( May God forbid it). These anguishing mixed feelings coupled with my love and deep concern for my sick mom and my poor family have embolden but made me shameless to knock at your door of your benevolent heart to ask for financial help. Any amount heartily given would be received with a grateful heart and probably would, God willing, redound to the prolongation of my mom's stay in this world and the mercy you might bestow to us would not be buried into oblivion until the end of our lives.

"WHATEVER KINDNESS I CAN DO, LET ME DO IT NOW FOR I SHALL NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN'.

May I reiterate, I earnestly beg for your mercy so that my mom may live longer and our family could still have her.

A million "THANKS"

Loving daughter,
Faith Casinillo

VI. MONEY NEEDED FOR MEDICATION

It is estimated that from admission to the hospital of February 21, 2013 up to present, medical expenses of my mother, Eula, could reach Php 64, 851.00 (1621.28 USD) including the hospitalization. The money came from our family is only Php 20,000.00 (500 USD). We are still deficit Php 44,851.00 (1121.28 USD).

IV. DIAGNOSED WITH HYPOTHYROIDISM

The following day (Friday) February 22, 2013, we went back to the diagnostic clinic early in the morning to extract blood as a sample for a medical test which is *FBS. Dr. Neus also included the test for thyroid function or **TSH because he wanted to assure that her diabetis did not affect the production if hormones in her thyroid gland. The laboratory result showed that the TSH value was 74.84. It was beyond the normal TSH range value of 0.27- 4.2. It was then verified that she is positive with ***HYPOTHYROIDISM.

*What is FBS?
FBS or fasting blood sugar level is one of the tests used to diagnose diabetis. It is determined by taking a sample of venous blood after at least eight hours of fasting. The sugar level is then evaluated in the blood sample.

*What is TSH?
TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone is a hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine, and then triiodothyroxine which stimulates the metabolism of almost every tissue in the body.

***HYPOTHYROIDISM
It is when the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone. Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. Stress is known to be a significant contributor to thyroid dyfunction; this can be environmental stress as well as lesser considered homeostatic stress such as fluctuating blood sugar levels and immune problems.

III. DIAGNOSED WITH SKIMMIA

Last February 02, 2013 (Saturday), she fell on the stairs. This triggered her body to weaken and felt pain. At first, she thought it was just normal and the pain was just tolerable so she ignored what she felt until Thursday, morning of February 21, 2013. She told us (her family) that she's so tired and felt her upper extremities numb. We immediately brought her back at Villaflor's Clinic and Hospital to ask for help but the doctor was on travel so our poor family decided to bring her to another diagnostic clinic ( IRENEAUS ZAMORAS MEDICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC CLINIC). She had a general consultation and ended - with two laboratory tests: 1. Urinalysis to test any presence of bacterial infection in her urine and 2. Electrocardiography (ECG) to test for the electrical activity of the heart. Based on the tests, the results showed that she is positive of urinary tract infection and heart failure ( SKIMMIA)  respectively.

WHAT IS SKIMMIA?
SKIMMIA, a type of heart failure, is the lack of blood going to the heart for pumping. " A blood vessel somehow blocked. "It is not something that you forego with it. Skimmia should not be taken slightly. In this condition, she has to undergo many examinations. Every condition of the heart should be treated immediately.

II. DIAGNOSED WITH TYPE ll DIABETIS and HYPERTENSION

It started on the 4th week of March 2012, were she was rushed to a hospital (Villaflor's Clinic and Hospital) because she felt dizzy, tired and uneasy. She undergone medical examinations and was diagnosed with hypertension. Her blood pressure was so high, 180/110, that pushed her to be confine in the said hospital. The following day, series of medical examinations was given to her. The results showed that she was positive with *TYPE ll Diabetes. She was immediately given the appropriate drugs to control her **hypertension and diabetes respectively. It lasted for more than a week.

*What is TYPE II Diabetes?
People with type 2 diabetes produce insulin; however, either their pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot use the insulin adequately. This is called insulin resistance. When there isn't enough insulin or the insulin is not used as it should be, glucose (sugar) can't get into the body's cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into the cells, the body's cells are not able to function properly.

**What is HYPERTENSION?
Hypertension (HTN) or high blood pressure, sometimes called arterial hypertension, is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries are elevated. This requires the heart to wark harder than normal to circulate the blood through the blood vessels. It is a major risk factor for stroke, myocardial infarction ( heart attacks, heart failures, aneurysms of the arteries, peripheral arterial disease and is a cause of chronic kidney disease. Even moderate elevation of the arterial blood pressure is associated with a shortened life expectancy.
